Homework Essay #1

When we speak of a tragedy we can say that it is an incident in which a person experiences a traumatic event. In the play Othello the Moor of Venice written by William Shakespear in 1603 we see a story full of betrayal, bitterness, jealousy, ambition and manipulation. These events combined have a tragic ending. The manipulation in this play is a key factor and very interesting because we can see how greed and ambition of a man can appeal to this sense regardless of its consequences. A character affected by the manipulation of the play Othello the Moor of Venice is Roderigo. Despite feelings for the love of a woman were able to Roderigo to an act unchecked, not pretend to be bad person. In a few words Roderigo is a character unbridled love of a woman and for that reason is manipulated by a man, driving a history full of jealousy, betrayal and ambition with an unexpected ending.

When a man seeks a woman not always do the right decision. Roderigo is an example of this, and their actions can be seen through the works of Shakespear. When we think of a person obssessed we can think of the character of Roderigo. In the first act of the play Roderigo goes home from Venice Brabacio counselor and father of Desdémona to inform him that his daughter had married the Moor Othello. At first Brabancio thought that this was another of the incistencias of Roderigo to conquer Desdémona. He tells these words: ¨Them worser welcome:  I have charged thee not to haunt about my doors:  In honest plainness thou hast heard me say My daughter is not for thee; and now, in madness, Being full of supper and distempering draughts, Upon malicious bravery, dost thou come
To start my quiet.
¨ This reaction was expected as a person Roderigo was very insistent.

Jealousy may be the worst enemy of man. In the course of the play Roderigo express jealousy on different occasions. One of these moments occurs when Roderigo goes to Brabancio house to inform them about the hidden marriage to Desdemona with Othello. Roderigo felt jealousy of Othello because achieving the goal that he was more craved, to get married with Desdemona. Iago, the alleged friend of Roderigo and the evil of the play, tells Roderigo that the love of Desdemona and Othello was a passenger. Iago, the alleged friend of Roderigo and the works of evil, tells Roderigo that the love of Desdemona and Othello was a passenger. He also wanted to convince Roderigo that Othello was much higher than Desdemona and he was Moro, reason enough for any suitor in Venice was better than Othello. Roderigo believed the lie of Iago. One of these lies was to make believe Roderigo that Casio, right hand of Othello, had a romance with Desdemona. In the second act Roderigo is jealous of Casio. This jealousy can be seen when Roderigo leads to Casio in Cyprus, causing distrust of Othello to Casio.  The jealousy of Roderigo blinded him, increasingly in the play.

This character represents as a weak human being can be adversely affected. In the case of Roderigo these weaknesses are presented in feelings such as jealousy, greed and selfishness. I think that Roderigo was so eager to fulfil their greed to be blinded in the moment when he accepted be part of a murder. In conclusion Roderigo was a character used by Iago to fulfil their evil desires.

  1. Interesting character once you choose. I agreed with you in the way that Roderigo was obsessive and insistent. I think that you thesis statement is that Roderigo was motivated by his jealous. Good work, in all your essay you have his principal problem present. Good argument. Maybe you have to check your grammar.
